Registered Dietitian Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered dietitian in Texas?
To become a registered dietitian in Texas, you must earn at least a bachelor's degree in dietetics or nutrition, complete an accredited supervised practice program, and pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam. Texas also requires a separate state license from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians before you can practice. Most employers require both the national credential and the Texas license before extending an offer.
How much do registered dietitians make in Texas?
Registered dietitians in Texas earn a median of about $74,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,040 for the lowest 10% to over $98,960 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered dietitians in Texas?
Employers hiring registered dietitians in Texas right now include Fresenius Medical Care, Nutritious Lifestyles, and Nourish, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and long-term care networks are among the most consistent sources of openings for dietitians in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most registered dietitian jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Humble have the most registered dietitian openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive the highest volume because of their dense concentration of major hospital systems and long-term care facilities, while San Antonio's large military medical centers and academic health institutions generate steady demand across clinical and outpatient settings.
Are there remote registered dietitian jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are limited. Most registered dietitian roles require direct patient interaction in clinical, long-term care, or school settings, which restricts remote work. About 19% of registered dietitian openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The positions most likely to be remote are telehealth nutrition counseling and corporate wellness consulting roles.
How can I get hired as a registered dietitian in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to dietetic internship residency programs or new-graduate rotational roles offered by large Texas health systems such as Baylor Scott & White Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center. Many candidates also move in from adjacent roles like diet technician or nutrition assistant. Earning your Texas state dietitian license before applying gives you a clear edge, and targeting long-term care or school nutrition positions tends to be more accessible for candidates building early clinical hours.
