New York requires this state license in addition to the national credential before you can practice professionally.
How much do registered dietitians make in New York?
Registered dietitians in New York earn a median of about $82,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,100 for the lowest 10% to over $105,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered dietitians in New York?
Employers hiring registered dietitians in New York right now include Northwell Health, DaVita, and Cornerstone Family Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of large academic medical centers, long-term care networks, and public health systems means openings appear consistently throughout the year rather than in seasonal waves.
Which New York cities have the most registered dietitian jobs?
The cities with the most registered dietitian openings in New York are New Hyde Park, Rochester, and Binghamton. New York City dominates due to its sheer density of hospital systems, outpatient clinics, and corporate wellness programs, while Buffalo and Albany draw steady demand from major regional health networks and state government health agencies that anchor those metro areas.
Are there remote registered dietitian jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 16% of registered dietitian openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the role involves direct patient assessment and hands-on counseling. Telehealth nutrition counseling and corporate wellness consulting represent the segments of the role most likely to be performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a registered dietitian in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to dietetic internship or new-graduate residency programs at large New York health systems, where Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and Montefiore periodically run structured rotations for early-career candidates. Roles such as diet technician or nutrition services assistant within these same institutions serve as a practical stepping stone. Holding your active New York State Registered Dietitian Nutritionist license from the outset gives candidates a clear hiring edge over those still awaiting state approval.
