Registered Nurse Operating Room Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse operating room in New York?
You must first hold an active New York State RN license issued through the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN after completing an accredited ADN or BSN program. Most New York hospitals hiring for the operating room require at least a BSN for new hires. From there, many large systems offer perioperative nurse residency or internship programs specifically designed to transition RNs without OR experience into surgical roles.
How much do registered nurse operating rooms make in New York?
Registered nurse operating rooms in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse operating rooms in New York?
Employers hiring registered nurse operating rooms in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and Northwell Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's dense concentration of academic medical centers and Level I trauma facilities means surgical nursing openings arise consistently throughout the year across both large urban systems and regional community hospitals.
Which New York cities have the most registered nurse operating room jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Syracuse have the most registered nurse operating room openings in New York. New York City leads by volume given its concentration of flagship academic medical centers and high-volume specialty surgical programs, while Albany and Buffalo anchor the state's other major hiring corridors through their regional trauma centers and university hospital systems serving large surrounding populations.
Are there remote registered nurse operating room jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse operating room roles are inherently hands-on, requiring physical presence in the surgical suite, so remote work is not a realistic option for the core clinical position. About 0% of registered nurse operating room openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those listings typically involve perioperative education, utilization review, or surgical services coordination functions rather than direct scrub or circulating duties.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse operating room in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to perioperative nurse residency or OR internship programs, which Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and Mount Sinai Health System run specifically for RNs transitioning into the surgical environment. Candidates coming from PACU, ICU, or emergency nursing backgrounds are strongly positioned because of their procedural and critical-thinking experience. Holding a current New York State RN license and a CNOR study plan in place meaningfully strengthens your application for these competitive cohort programs.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location within the state, and apply directly to each posting without any intermediary step.
