Registered Nurse Operating Room Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse operating room in Pennsylvania?
You must hold an active Registered Nurse license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, which requires completing an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. From there, most Pennsylvania hospitals expect new OR nurses to complete a formal perioperative nursing internship or residency. Earning the CNOR certification through the Competency and Credentialing Institute strengthens your candidacy significantly with Pennsylvania employers.
How much do registered nurse operating rooms make in Pennsylvania?
Registered nurse operating rooms in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $96,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,800 for the lowest 10% to over $117,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse operating rooms in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring registered nurse operating rooms in Pennsylvania right now include Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Penn State Health, and Allegheny Health Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's dense concentration of large academic medical systems and regional trauma centers means OR nursing openings appear consistently year-round across the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most registered nurse operating room jobs?
The Pennsylvania cities with the most registered nurse operating room openings are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Hershey. Philadelphia leads because of its large academic medical centers and specialty surgical hospitals, Pittsburgh follows with UPMC's extensive surgical network, and smaller metros like Allentown benefit from regional health systems expanding their surgical capacity to serve growing suburban populations.
Are there remote registered nurse operating room jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse operating room work is hands-on and performed entirely at the surgical table, so the role is fundamentally on-site. About 0% of registered nurse operating room openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those listings typically involve perioperative care coordination or surgical education roles rather than direct clinical OR work.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse operating room in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a perioperative nurse residency or new-graduate OR internship program at a large Pennsylvania health system. UPMC, Penn Medicine, and Jefferson Health all run structured perioperative training programs designed for RNs without prior OR experience. Coming in from a PACU, procedure suite, or critical care unit is a common lateral move that Pennsylvania hiring managers view favorably, and holding or actively pursuing your CNOR gives a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employer.
