Registered Nurse Operating Room Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse operating room in Texas?
You must hold an active RN license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing, which requires completing an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. After licensure, most Texas hospitals require or strongly prefer perioperative-specific experience, often gained through an OR internship or new-grad residency program. Earning the CNOR credential from the Competency and Credentialing Institute further strengthens your candidacy for circulating and senior scrub roles.
How much do registered nurse operating rooms make in Texas?
Registered nurse operating rooms in Texas earn a median of about $95,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,120 for the lowest 10% to over $127,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse operating rooms in Texas?
Employers hiring registered nurse operating rooms in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, Houston Methodist, and Memorial Hermann Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and freestanding surgical centers tend to post the most consistent volume of perioperative openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most registered nurse operating room jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most registered nurse operating room openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of level-one trauma centers and large academic medical systems, while Dallas and San Antonio generate consistent volume through major health system networks and rapidly expanding ambulatory surgical centers serving high-growth suburban populations.
Are there remote registered nurse operating room jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse operating room work is fundamentally hands-on and requires physical presence in the surgical suite, so fully remote roles are nearly nonexistent in this specialty. About 0% of registered nurse operating room openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those are almost exclusively in perioperative education, clinical documentation, or utilization review functions adjacent to the OR.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse operating room in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a new-graduate OR residency or perioperative internship program, which large Texas systems like HCA Healthcare's Texas division and Baylor Scott & White Health run specifically to train RNs without surgical experience. Lateral moves from PACU, procedural sedation, or sterile processing roles are also common entry points at Texas facilities. Holding your CNOR eligibility and completing any available scrub-tech cross-training adds a measurable edge when competing against more experienced candidates.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across hospital systems, ambulatory surgical centers, and specialty facilities. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
