Clinical Psychologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical psychologist in New York?
To become a licensed psychologist in New York, you must earn a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program, complete a supervised postdoctoral experience of at least one year, and pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology. Licensure is granted by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. New York also requires a jurisprudence component confirming familiarity with state mental health law before a license is issued.
Which companies hire clinical psychologists in New York?
Employers hiring clinical psychologists in New York right now include CHE Behavioral Health Services, LifeStance Health, and Ivy Psychiatry, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's large academic medical centers and integrated health systems tend to post the most consistent volume, particularly for outpatient, neuropsychology, and inpatient consultation roles.
Which New York cities have the most clinical psychologist jobs?
New York, Queens, and Otisville have the most clinical psychologist openings in New York. New York City drives the largest share of demand through its concentration of academic medical centers, hospital systems, and community mental health organizations, while Albany and Buffalo generate steady hiring through state-affiliated institutions, VA medical centers, and regional health networks serving their surrounding areas.
Are there remote clinical psychologist jobs in New York?
Yes, though they are more limited than in purely desk-based fields, since many roles require in-person assessment, testing, or crisis response. About 48% of clinical psychologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Teletherapy and telehealth consultation roles account for most of the fully remote positions, particularly in outpatient and private-practice settings.
How can I get hired as a clinical psychologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a postdoctoral fellowship or psychology residency, and large New York employers such as NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health, and the New York City Health and Hospitals system post these programs annually. Candidates can also transition from roles as licensed clinical social workers or mental health counselors, which build the clinical hours valued in hiring decisions. Completing your New York licensure application early and securing supervised hours in a community mental health or hospital setting gives a newly graduated candidate a clear competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to clinical psychologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to clinical psychologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred setting, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
