Essential Functions
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
- Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires
- Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produces good technical images, reviewing completed exams for quality, completeness for the type of test ordered
- Assists physicians during procedures as necessary
- Performs equipment Quality assurance and calibrations as needed, orders supplies
- Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department. Works on call, holiday, overtime and/or day, evening and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the department
- Maintains the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med or supervisor.
- Processes film/images, or prints CD’s if needed
- Performs routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports/films, documents information on patients’ request, Meditech or hospital RIS and PACs digital x-ray system
- Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors
- Shows radiologist images and calls reports to the attending physician and documents communications if necessary (wet readings)
- May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor
- Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the hospitals behavioral standards.
- Introduces self and educates each patient or family member regarding the examination that is ordered.
- Knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical and psychosocial needs of different patient populations including neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups
- Performs other related duties as required, attends staff meetings and in-services
- Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department or hospital
Qualifications
- High School Required and
- Certificate allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital based program. Required or
- Associate Degree Preferred
- 2 years of experience Preferred
- Must be able to work in environment with continuous interruptions (High proficiency)
- Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department and hospital (High proficiency)
- Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions (High proficiency)
- Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times (High proficiency)
- Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices (High proficiency)
- Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time. (High proficiency)
- Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day. (High proficiency)
- Passing advanced mammo examination/certification within one year of date of hire: Including 40 hours of training in mammography including anatomy and physiology, QA/QC and 25 mammo exams under direct supervision by an MQSA individual during the orientation process.
- Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth.
- 15 category 1 CEU in mammo in a 36 month period.
- ARRT-M - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Mammography - AMERICAN REGISTERY OF RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS (ARRT) Upon Hire Required and
- BLS - American Heart Association within 90 Days Required
- New York State-DOH-Radiology License Upon Hire Required and
- Passing advanced Mammo examination/certification preferred or within 1 year from date of hire within 1 Year Required and
- Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology (ACR) will be performed during the orientation process and before end of probationary period. within 180 Days Required
