Mammography Technologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mammography technologist in Texas?
You become a mammography technologist in Texas by first completing an accredited radiologic technology program and earning ARRT certification in Radiography, then adding the ARRT Mammography (M) post-primary certification. Texas does not require a separate state imaging license beyond ARRT credentialing, but facilities operating mammography equipment must comply with federal MQSA standards enforced through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Most Texas employers expect both credentials before hiring.
How much do mammography technologists make in Texas?
Mammography technologists in Texas earn a median of about $78,630 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,550 for the lowest 10% to over $102,630 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mammography technologists in Texas?
Employers hiring mammography technologists in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, Houston Methodist, and University Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's density of large integrated health systems and dedicated breast health programs means hiring is consistent year-round rather than concentrated in seasonal waves.
Which Texas cities have the most mammography technologist jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Orange have the most mammography technologist openings in Texas, driven by the concentration of major hospital systems, NCI-designated cancer centers, and outpatient imaging networks headquartered in those metros. Smaller cities on the list typically reflect large regional health systems or ambulatory care growth that extends demand beyond the primary urban cores.
Are there remote mammography technologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Mammography is a hands-on imaging specialty that requires direct patient contact and operation of fixed or mobile equipment, so the vast majority of positions are fully on-site. About 0% of mammography technologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those postings typically cover administrative, quality assurance, or teleradiology support functions rather than direct imaging work.
How can I get hired as a mammography technologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing your ARRT Radiography certification first and applying to general radiologic technologist roles at large Texas health systems like Baylor Scott and White Health or UT Health, which run structured imaging departments where you can request cross-training in mammography. HCA Healthcare facilities across Texas also post new-grad radiographer openings that lead to mammography rotations. Earning the ARRT Mammography (M) certification while working as a staff radiographer signals readiness to move into a dedicated mammography role and significantly narrows the experience gap.
Where can I find and apply to mammography technologist jobs in Texas?
