Clinical Therapist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical therapist in Texas?
Becoming a clinical therapist in Texas requires a master's degree in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy followed by supervised post-graduate hours and a licensing exam. The Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors oversees LPC licensure, while LCSW applicants work through the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners and LMFT candidates through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists. Each board sets its own supervised hours requirement before you can sit for the licensing exam.
Which companies hire clinical therapists in Texas?
Employers hiring clinical therapists in Texas right now include Texas Children's Hospital, Cook Incorporated, and Life Time, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large community mental health center network and integrated health systems mean clinical therapist openings are distributed across both urban medical campuses and county-funded behavioral health agencies throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most clinical therapist jobs?
Austin, Edinburg, and Fort Worth consistently post the most clinical therapist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas lead because of their dense networks of hospital systems, community mental health centers, and private group practices, while San Antonio's large military population and VA facilities drive steady demand for trauma-specialized and veterans-focused clinical roles.
Are there remote clinical therapist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many clinical fields, because telehealth therapy has become widely accepted. About 0% of clinical therapist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how many Texas practices and health systems expanded virtual care delivery. Individual and outpatient talk therapy sessions are the most common services delivered remotely, while crisis assessment and group facilitation roles tend to remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a clinical therapist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for associate or intern-level clinician roles at Texas community mental health centers such as Integral Care in Austin or the Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Center, which regularly bring on provisionally licensed candidates accruing supervised hours. School district counselor aide positions and case manager roles at Texas Health and Human Services-contracted agencies are common lateral entry points. Holding your Texas LPC Associate or LMSW credential before applying gives you a clear advantage over candidates who have not yet begun the licensure process.
