How do you become a physician assistant in Texas?
To work as a physician assistant in Texas, you must hold a license issued by the Texas Medical Board. After initial certification, you apply for your Texas PA license through the Texas Medical Board's online portal and maintain it through continuing medical education and NCCPA recertification.
How much do physician assistants make in Texas?
Physician assistants in Texas earn a median of about $134,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $102,650 for the lowest 10% to over $169,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physician assistants in Texas?

Texas's large integrated health systems, including academic medical centers and multi-site specialty groups, drive much of the ongoing demand across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most physician assistant jobs?
Houston, Fort Worth, and Dallas have the most physician assistant openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of major medical centers and the Texas Medical Center complex anchors the bulk of statewide demand, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio follow closely due to their large academic health systems and rapidly expanding suburban outpatient networks.
Are there remote physician assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physician assistant work is fundamentally hands-on and patient-facing, so fully remote roles make up a small fraction of openings. About 2% of physician assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are concentrated in telehealth platforms and care coordination or utilization review roles that don't require in-person examination.
How can I get hired as a physician assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a postgraduate PA residency or fellowship, and Texas has several options through programs at UT Southwestern, Baylor Scott and White, and Houston Methodist. New graduates without specialty experience should also target general internal medicine or family practice roles at large multi-site groups, where structured onboarding and mentorship are common. Coming in from a medical assistant or paramedic background and completing your NCCPA certification as a new graduate strengthens your application considerably for these entry-level openings.
