Family Practitioner Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a family practitioner in Texas?
To practice as a family practitioner in Texas, you must earn a medical degree, complete an accredited family medicine residency, and obtain a Texas Medical License through the Texas Medical Board. The TMB requires a completed application, verified training records, and passage of the USMLE or COMLEX. Most Texas employers also expect board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine before or shortly after hire.
How much do family practitioners make in Texas?
Family practitioners in Texas earn a median of about $235,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,150 for the lowest 10% to over $414,010 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire family practitioners in Texas?
Employers hiring family practitioners in Texas right now include Texas Health Resources, Texas A&M University, and CHRISTUS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's largest integrated health systems and federally qualified health centers are consistently among the most active hirers, particularly for primary care roles in high-growth and underserved markets.
Which Texas cities have the most family practitioner jobs?
Bedford, Bee Cave, and Benbrook have the most family practitioner openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas lead because of the concentration of large academic medical centers, multi-site clinic networks, and federally qualified health centers headquartered there, while San Antonio's substantial military and veteran health infrastructure drives consistent demand for primary care physicians across the metro.
Are there remote family practitioner jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Family practitioner work is fundamentally hands-on and clinic-based, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of family practitioner openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to involve telehealth consultations, chronic care management, or patient follow-up rather than full-scope in-person primary care.
How can I get hired as a family practitioner in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate or first-year attending positions at large Texas health systems like Baylor Scott & White, UT Health, and Texas Children's, which run onboarding programs designed for physicians completing residency. Community health centers across Texas, particularly those funded through HRSA, actively recruit new graduates and offer loan repayment incentives. Completing your Texas Medical Board licensing early and securing board eligibility before your residency ends gives you a clear hiring edge.
Where can I find and apply to family practitioner jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to family practitioner jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
