Tips for Your Physician Assistant Job Search
Tailor your CV to each specialty
PA hiring managers read dozens of CVs, so a surgical PA CV should lead with OR hours and procedure volume, while a primary care CV should front-load chronic disease management and panel size. Generic PA CVs rarely clear the first screen.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists physician assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight your NCCPA certification status clearly
Employers filter fast on certification, so place your NCCPA certification number, expiration date, and state licensure status in a dedicated credentials section at the top of your CV, not buried in a summary paragraph.
Target openings by supervising physician specialty
Most PA job postings name the supervising physician's specialty. If your clinical rotations or prior work align with that specialty, call it out explicitly in your cover letter. Alignment with the supervising physician's practice area is a common tiebreaker.
Prepare for competency-based interview questions
PA interviews frequently include scenario questions about clinical decision-making under ambiguity. Prepare three or four brief case narratives from your rotations or prior practice that show your diagnostic reasoning, not just your bedside manner.
Negotiate scope of practice before accepting an offer
Before signing, confirm in writing which procedures you're authorized to perform, prescriptive authority limits, and whether the practice will support DEA registration if required. These details rarely come up unless you raise them, and they are harder to renegotiate after you start.
Physician Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most physician assistants?
The companies hiring the most physician assistants right now include Signify Health, Optum, and Baylor College of Medicine, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Health systems, large multispecialty groups, and urgent care networks consistently account for the highest volume of PA openings nationally.
How many physician assistant jobs are remote?
About 3% of physician assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those roles concentrated in telehealth, utilization review, and insurance medical review. Hands-on clinical positions in surgery, urgent care, and hospital settings are almost always on-site by the nature of the work.
How do you become a physician assistant?
You complete a bachelor's degree with required prerequisite science coursework, then earn a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited program, which includes supervised clinical rotations across multiple specialties. After graduating, you pass the PANCE to earn NCCPA certification, then apply for state licensure in the state where you plan to practice before seeing patients.
How do you get hired as a physician assistant with no experience?
New graduate PAs most often get hired by leaning into their rotation experience, naming the specific clinical settings, patient volumes, and procedures they performed rather than listing the rotation titles alone. Applying to health systems with formal new graduate PA programs, which include structured onboarding and physician mentorship, is a more reliable path into your first role than targeting independent or single-provider practices.
What does the physician assistant interview process look like?
Most PA interviews move through a phone or video screen with a recruiter or practice manager, followed by an in-person interview with the supervising physician and often one or two other PAs or advanced practice providers on the team. Larger health systems may add a panel interview or a brief clinical case discussion. The full process typically runs two to four weeks from application to offer.
Where can I find and apply to physician assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to physician assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
