Physician Assistant Jobs in Madison: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physician assistant job in Madison?
Target Madison's dominant healthcare employers: UW Health's clinic network, SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, and the VA outpatient facilities spread across the Near East Side and west campus. Surgical subspecialties and primary care panels are the highest-volume openings. Candidates with experience in academic or teaching-adjacent settings stand out here, since many Madison practices are affiliated with the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
Which companies hire physician assistants in Madison?
Employers hiring physician assistants in Madison right now include UW Health, SSM Health, and Fortrea, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Madison's market skews heavily toward large integrated health systems and federally qualified health centers alongside a growing number of multispecialty private groups on the west and east sides of the city.
Are there remote physician assistant jobs in Madison?
Yes, though remote opportunities are limited by nature for a hands-on clinical role. About 30% of physician assistant openings tied to Madison are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects broader industry norms. The roles most likely to offer remote or hybrid schedules in Madison are triage, utilization review, and telehealth positions within UW Health's virtual care programs.
How can I get a physician assistant job in Madison with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through UW Health's resident and new-graduate hiring pipelines, which are designed for candidates coming directly out of PA programs. Federally qualified health centers like Access Community Health Centers also hire new graduates willing to work in underserved primary care settings. Urgent care and occupational health clinics on Madison's east and west sides tend to be more flexible on experience than hospital-based surgical teams.
Which industries hire the most physician assistants in Madison?
Most physician assistant openings in Madison sit in Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Madison's status as a major academic research hub and state capital drives demand across both hospital-based and outpatient settings, with UW Health and affiliated research clinics anchoring the largest share of local openings.
