Physician Assistant Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician assistant in Indiana?
You must hold an active physician assistant license issued by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency to practice in Indiana. The path starts with graduating from an accredited physician assistant program, passing the PANCE administered by the NCCPA, and then applying to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency for your state license. Indiana does not require a supervising physician agreement by statute, but most employers establish collaborative practice arrangements as part of onboarding.
How much do physician assistants make in Indiana?
Physician assistants in Indiana earn a median of about $132,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,810 for the lowest 10% to over $196,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physician assistants in Indiana?
Indiana physician assistant roles are posted by Indiana University Health, 77 Consultants, and Ascension and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's large integrated health systems and multispecialty group practices account for the majority of consistent openings, particularly in the Indianapolis metro and secondary markets like Fort Wayne and Evansville.
Which Indiana cities have the most physician assistant jobs?
Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Avon have the most physician assistant openings in Indiana. Indianapolis dominates because of its concentration of major health systems, academic medical centers, and specialty practices, while Fort Wayne and Evansville each anchor their own regional health markets with established systems like Parkview Health and Deaconess that hire physician assistants across multiple service lines and outpatient locations.
Are there remote physician assistant jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 19% of physician assistant openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on clinical nature of most physician assistant roles. The positions most likely to include remote or hybrid components are in telehealth triage, utilization review, or care management, where patient contact is conducted via video or phone rather than in person.
How can I get hired as a physician assistant in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate or postgraduate residency programs offered by Indiana health systems, with Indiana University Health and Eskenazi Health among the Indiana employers known to run structured programs for clinicians early in their careers. Candidates transitioning from roles as paramedics, medical assistants, or surgical technologists often have a leg up in emergency and procedural settings. Having your Indiana license in hand and ACLS certification secured before applying significantly shortens the time to an offer.
Where can I find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
