Hygienist Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hygienist in Indiana?
You become a licensed dental hygienist in Indiana by completing an accredited dental hygiene program, then passing both the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional clinical board exam. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency under the Indiana State Board of Dentistry. Indiana also requires continuing education to renew your license on the standard renewal cycle.
How much do hygienists make in Indiana?
Hygienists in Indiana earn a median of about $92,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,970 for the lowest 10% to over $102,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hygienists in Indiana?
Indiana hygienist roles are posted by Heartland Dental, P1 Dental Partners, and Benevis and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large health systems and multi-site dental group practices drive the most consistent volume of openings across the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most hygienist jobs?
Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Carmel lead Indiana for hygienist openings right now. Indianapolis dominates because of its concentration of large health systems and corporate dental groups, while Fort Wayne and Evansville generate steady demand through regional hospital networks and growing suburban dental practices that serve those metro populations.
Are there remote hygienist jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Clinical hygienist work is hands-on by nature and requires an in-person patient setting, so most roles are fully on-site. About 0% of hygienist openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to involve administrative, consulting, or dental education functions rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a hygienist in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to large dental group practices and health system clinics in Indiana that regularly hire new graduates, including IU Health affiliated dental clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers across the state. Many community health organizations offer structured onboarding for early-career hygienists. Holding your active Indiana dental hygienist license and a current radiography certification gives you a clear edge, and dental assistant experience in a clinical setting is the most common adjacent role that opens the door.
Where can I find and apply to hygienist jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to hygienist jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
