Medical Technologist Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical technologist in Indiana?
Indiana does not issue a state-specific license for medical technologists, so the standard path is earning a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field from an accredited program, then obtaining certification through the ASCP Board of Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Most Indiana hospitals and health systems treat ASCP certification as a firm requirement rather than a preference, making it the credential that opens the door to employment.
Which companies hire medical technologists in Indiana?
Indiana medical technologist roles are posted by Deaconess Health System, Labcorp, and Lutheran Hospital and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's large integrated health systems and regional hospital networks account for the majority of postings, with reference laboratories and outpatient specialty clinics adding a steady secondary stream of openings.
Which Indiana cities have the most medical technologist jobs?
Jasper, Indianapolis, and Carmel have the most medical technologist openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share of demand as the state capital and home to major academic medical centers and health system headquarters, while Fort Wayne and South Bend anchor significant regional hospital markets that recruit independently of the Indianapolis core.
Are there remote medical technologist jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Medical technology is a hands-on laboratory role that requires direct specimen handling and on-site instrument operation, so fully remote positions are uncommon by nature. About 0% of medical technologist openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles tend to be in laboratory data review, telephonic pathology support, or compliance and quality functions rather than bench work.
How can I get hired as a medical technologist in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to new-graduate or student extern programs run by large Indiana health systems such as Indiana University Health and Ascension St. Vincent, which routinely onboard candidates who are ASCP-eligible but not yet certified. Laboratory assistant and phlebotomy roles at those same systems offer a lateral path, building institutional familiarity and practical exposure while you complete certification. Holding or actively pursuing ASCP certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those who have not yet started the exam process.
Where can I find and apply to medical technologist jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to medical technologist jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your background.
