Most Indiana hospitals also expect board certification through the American Board of Pathology. Fellowship training in a subspecialty strengthens candidacy at academic and tertiary care centers.

Indiana's largest integrated health systems and its academic medical institutions account for the bulk of full-time and locum pathology openings across the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most pathologist jobs?
Indianapolis, Kokomo, and Evansville have the most pathologist openings in Indiana. Indianapolis leads because it anchors Indiana's largest academic medical complex and several major regional health networks, while Fort Wayne and South Bend generate consistent openings through their own sizeable hospital systems serving broad northern Indiana catchment areas.

The subspecialties most suited to remote work are dermatopathology and second-opinion consultation, while frozen sections and autopsy services require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a pathologist in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a pathology residency or subspecialty fellowship at an Indiana institution such as Indiana University School of Medicine or a Franciscan Health-affiliated training program, which can lead directly to staff positions. New graduates should target laboratory medicine roles or pathology assistant positions as lateral moves that build hands-on tissue experience. Obtaining Indiana Medical Licensing Board licensure early and documenting case volume from training strengthens applications considerably.
