Pathologist Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pathologist in Florida?
To practice as a pathologist in Florida, you must hold an active Florida physician license issued by the Florida Department of Health's Board of Medicine, which requires completing medical school, a pathology residency, passing USMLE Steps one through three, and submitting a state licensure application. Most hospital systems and health networks also require or strongly prefer board certification through the American Board of Pathology before extending a full attending offer.
How much do pathologists make in Florida?
Pathologists in Florida earn a median of about $313,510 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,740 for the lowest 10% to over $477,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pathologists in Florida?
Employers hiring pathologists in Florida right now include HealthPRO Heritage, Trilogy Home Healthcare, and Step Up Rehab, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's mix of large integrated hospital systems, freestanding reference labs, and academic medical centers means openings appear across both urban centers and regional facilities throughout the state.
Which Florida cities have the most pathologist jobs?
Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa consistently post the most pathologist openings in Florida. Miami leads because of its density of academic medical centers and specialty hospitals, Tampa benefits from large integrated systems like HCA Florida anchored there, and Jacksonville's concentration of regional health networks and the Mayo Clinic campus sustains steady demand even outside the major coastal metros.
Are there remote pathologist jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they represent a distinct minority. About 8% of pathologist openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most pathology work requires on-site specimen handling, microscopy, and direct laboratory oversight. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are digital slide review, tumor board consultation, and second-opinion reads for smaller facilities using telepathology platforms.
How can I get hired as a pathologist in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a residency or fellowship position at a Florida academic program, such as those affiliated with University of Florida Health, University of Miami Health System, or Tampa General Hospital, which serve as the primary pipeline into staff roles. New physicians without attending experience should target staff pathologist openings at community hospitals and regional reference laboratories that routinely onboard recent residency graduates, and obtaining Florida licensure and board eligibility before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those still pending credentialing.
Where can I find and apply to pathologist jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to pathologist jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your specialty and experience level, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
