ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Clinical Speech Pathologist, you will evaluate and treat adult and pediatric patients with communication and swallowing disorders in an outpatient setting. This population includes stroke patients, those with traumatic brain injuries or Parkinson’s disease and cancer patients. You will perform comprehensive assessments, interpret findings to support medical diagnosis and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s functional goals. In this role, you will provide education and counseling to patients and their families while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients’ independence and quality of life while building specialized expertise. A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
- Interpret and report on test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
- Provide counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families.
- Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.
- Select assistive speech devices to improve patient communication.
- Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy.
- Provide observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine the need for other services.
- Maintain records of all services.
- Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such as schools and employers.
- Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.
- Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
- Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology
- Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
- Completion of a nine-month clinical fellowship year
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform tests.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in the evaluation and treatment of voice, airway and swallowing disorders
- Laryngeal imaging including flexible and rigid stroboscopy
- Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
- Experience in working with the singing voice
- Experience in working in a multidisciplinary clinic
PAY RANGE
Minimum Annual Salary: $63,250.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $96,467.50
