INTRODUCTION
The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program), Post-baccalaureate Master’s program (1-year), and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high quality, supremely competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect our student body.
The CUNY SoM has five departments: Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). All departments play a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program, post-bac program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the departments are centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, oncology, social determinants of health, and community health. The selected candidate will be placed in the most appropriate department based upon their credentials and experience.

Pathologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pathologist in New York?
To practice as a pathologist in New York, you must hold an active physician license issued by the New York State Education Department through its Office of the Professions. This requires completing medical school, an accredited anatomic or clinical pathology residency, and passing the relevant USMLE steps. Most New York hospital employers also expect board certification through the American Board of Pathology before or shortly after hire.
How much do pathologists make in New York?
Pathologists in New York earn a median of about $321,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $91,680 for the lowest 10% to over $493,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pathologists in New York?
Employers hiring pathologists in New York right now include Upstate Cerebral Palsy, FOX Rehabilitation, and Elderwood, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of academic medical centers and large integrated health systems means openings appear year-round, particularly in the New York City metro where hospital consolidation has expanded pathology department staffing needs.
Which New York cities have the most pathologist jobs?
Utica, New York, and Brooklyn have the most pathologist openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its concentration of academic medical centers, cancer centers, and large health systems, while Buffalo and Rochester generate consistent demand through their regional hospital networks and university-affiliated teaching hospitals that maintain active pathology programs.
Are there remote pathologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Pathology is a hands-on discipline centered on specimen analysis, tissue review, and laboratory oversight, so most positions require on-site presence. About 0% of pathologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve teleconsultation, digital pathology review, or administrative roles rather than full diagnostic sign-out.
How can I get hired as a pathologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a residency at a New York-based program, such as those at NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health, or Montefiore Medical Center, which regularly transition residents into staff or fellow positions. New graduates should target associate or staff pathologist roles at community hospitals outside the New York City core, where competition is lower. Obtaining New York State licensure and pursuing subspecialty fellowship training significantly strengthens any early-career application.
Where can I find and apply to pathologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to pathologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find one that fits your subspecialty and experience level, and apply directly.
