Clinical Psychologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical psychologist in Texas?
To work as a clinical psychologist in Texas, you must hold a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA-accredited program and obtain licensure through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, which requires passing the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology and completing supervised postdoctoral hours. Most Texas employers also require completion of an APA-accredited internship. The board oversees all licensing, renewals, and continuing education requirements for practicing psychologists in the state.
Which companies hire clinical psychologists in Texas?
Employers hiring clinical psychologists in Texas right now include LifeStance Health, University Health, and Heart Centered Counseling, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas also sees consistent hiring from VA medical centers, public university counseling centers, and large integrated health systems operating community behavioral health clinics across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most clinical psychologist jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Austin have the most clinical psychologist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive volume through their large academic medical centers, hospital systems, and private group practices, while San Antonio's concentration of military installations and VA facilities creates steady demand for trauma-specialized and forensic psychologists.
Are there remote clinical psychologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are more limited than in purely desk-based fields, since much clinical psychology work requires in-person assessment, testing, and crisis intervention. About 18% of clinical psychologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a real but selective telehealth segment. Individual therapy, outpatient consultation, and supervision roles are the most likely to carry remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a clinical psychologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a postdoctoral fellowship at a Texas academic medical center or VA facility, where structured supervision and caseload exposure are built into the role. UT Southwestern, UTHealth Houston, and Texas Children's Hospital all run formal postdoctoral training programs. Candidates can also transition from adjacent roles such as licensed professional counselor associate or psychological associate positions while accruing supervised hours toward full licensure, which gives Texas employers a practical credential to hire against.
Where can I find and apply to clinical psychologist jobs in Texas?
