Hospitalist Physician Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hospitalist physician in Maryland?
To become a hospitalist physician in Maryland, you must hold a medical degree from an accredited institution, complete an ACGME-accredited residency in internal medicine or family medicine, and obtain an active license through the Maryland Board of Physicians. Most Maryland employers also require board certification through ABIM or ABFM. Candidates should apply directly to hospital systems, which typically credential new hires through their medical staff offices.
How much do hospitalist physicians make in Maryland?
Hospitalist physicians in Maryland earn a median of about $260,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $135,630 for the lowest 10% to over $393,430 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hospitalist physicians in Maryland?
Maryland hospitalist physician roles are posted by Adfinitas Health, US Acute Care Solutions, and University of Maryland Medical System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's dense network of academic medical centers, regional community hospitals, and federally affiliated health systems means hiring is distributed across a wide range of institution types throughout the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most hospitalist physician jobs?
Baltimore, Lanham-Seabrook, and Towson have the most hospitalist physician openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors the market through its concentration of academic medical centers and large health systems, while Bethesda and the D.C. suburbs draw demand from federal health institutions and suburban community hospitals that serve a large and densely populated commuter region.
Are there remote hospitalist physician jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they're rare. Hospitalist medicine is an inherently bedside role requiring direct patient care, so most positions are fully on-site. About 0% of hospitalist physician openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles typically involve administrative, utilization review, or telemedicine coverage functions rather than traditional inpatient rounding duties.
How can I get hired as a hospitalist physician in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly out of residency, as Maryland's major health systems routinely recruit new graduates. Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of Maryland Medical System both offer post-residency onboarding tracks for early-career hospitalists. Candidates who have completed a chief residency or held a teaching appointment strengthen their applications considerably. Physicians transitioning from outpatient internal medicine or urgent care can also move into hospitalist roles through lateral hire processes at community hospitals across the state.
Where can I find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and preferred location, and apply directly to each position through the listing.
