Registered Nurse Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse in Texas?
You become a registered nurse in Texas by completing an accredited nursing program, either an associate degree in nursing or a bachelor of science in nursing, and then passing the NCLEX-RN exam. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing, which issues and maintains RN licenses in the state. Nurses licensed in other states may apply through the Nurse Licensure Compact if their home state participates.
How much do registered nurses make in Texas?
Registered nurses in Texas earn a median of about $95,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,120 for the lowest 10% to over $127,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurses in Texas?
Employers hiring registered nurses in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, CHRISTUS Health, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, regional hospital networks, and long-term care providers maintain consistent hiring demand across the state.

How can I get hired as a registered nurse in Texas with little or no experience?
Target hospital new graduate residency programs, which large Texas systems like Baylor Scott & White, Houston Methodist, and CHRISTUS Health run for nurses without professional experience, mostly in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
