Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a palliative care nurse practitioner in Texas?
You become a palliative care nurse practitioner in Texas by first earning a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice with a nurse practitioner specialty, then passing a national certification exam through ANCC or AANP, and applying for advanced practice registered nurse licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing. Texas also requires a prescriptive authority agreement with a collaborating physician. Many Texas employers prefer or require additional palliative care certification, such as the ACHPN credential offered through the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.
How much do palliative care nurse practitioners make in Texas?
Palliative care nurse practitioners in Texas earn a median of about $131,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,880 for the lowest 10% to over $161,980 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire palliative care nurse practitioners in Texas?
Employers hiring palliative care nurse practitioners in Texas right now include AccentCare, Baylor College of Medicine, and Baylor Scott & White Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large integrated health systems and dedicated cancer centers means demand is particularly strong among academic medical institutions and regional hospice networks with statewide footprints.
Which Texas cities have the most palliative care nurse practitioner jobs?
The Texas cities with the most palliative care nurse practitioner openings are Houston, Killeen, and Fort Worth. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of major health systems and nationally recognized cancer programs, while Dallas and San Antonio generate consistent openings through large regional hospital networks and growing hospice organizations serving both urban cores and surrounding suburban communities.
Are there remote palliative care nurse practitioner jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Palliative care nurse practitioner work is predominantly hands-on and delivered at the bedside, in hospice facilities, or through home visits, which limits fully remote options. About 0% of palliative care nurse practitioner openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are most often in care coordination, telepalliative consultation, or utilization management roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a palliative care nurse practitioner in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to NP residency or fellowship programs that Texas health systems run specifically for new graduates, such as those offered through Baylor Scott and White Health or Houston Methodist, which provide structured palliative care rotations. Candidates without palliative-specific experience can also transition from adjacent roles such as oncology RN, hospice RN, or inpatient case manager positions at large Texas hospital systems, as these roles build the clinical foundation employers look for. Earning the ACHPN certification, even before accumulating years of NP practice, signals genuine commitment and gives a competitive edge in a field where specialist supply remains tight across Texas.
Where can I find and apply to palliative care nurse practitioner jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to palliative care nurse practitioner jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
