Dental Assistant Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental assistant in North Carolina?
To work as a dental assistant in North Carolina you must register with the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. Most candidates complete a CODA-accredited dental assisting program at a community college such as Central Piedmont, Forsyth Tech, or Wake Tech, then pass the board-required radiography examination. Once your education and exam requirements are met, you submit your registration application directly to the Board before practicing.
Which companies hire dental assistants in North Carolina?
Employers hiring dental assistants in North Carolina right now include Aspen Dental, Heartland Dental, and CAROLINASDENTIST, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. North Carolina's large health systems, community health networks, and regional dental service organizations together make up a significant share of steady, full-time openings across the state.
Which North Carolina cities have the most dental assistant jobs?
Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh are the North Carolina cities with the most dental assistant openings right now. Charlotte and Raleigh lead because of their large health system campuses and dense concentration of private group practices, while Greensboro draws hiring through its community health centers and the several dental school-affiliated clinics operating in the Piedmont Triad region.
Are there remote dental assistant jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. Dental assisting is a hands-on chairside role, so the large majority of positions require in-office presence. About 0% of dental assistant openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be administrative or patient-coordination roles attached to larger dental group practices rather than true clinical positions.
How can I get hired as a dental assistant in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a community college dental assisting program, which combines classroom instruction with clinical externships at partnering practices. Programs at Wake Tech, Central Piedmont, and Forsyth Tech place graduates directly with local dental offices through their externship networks. Applying for dental receptionist or sterilization technician roles at large group practices or community health centers like CommWell Health is another effective route, as many North Carolina employers promote from those positions into chairside assisting roles once you hold your board registration.
Where can I find and apply to dental assistant jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to dental assistant jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current North Carolina openings updated regularly. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each position through the listing.
