INTRODUCTION
Davidson College invites qualified candidates to apply for the Health Educator position in the Center for Student Health & Well-Being.
The Heath Educator position will plan and employ an evidence-based health education program that addresses current health issues for Davidson college students. Providing individual support and resources to students to meet their health education needs (e.g., reproductive health, sexuality issues, sexual violence, addictive disorders, eating disorders, emotional well-being, etc.).
This position will work closely with all of the first-year Orientation programs (Community of Respect, Davidson Close-Up online courses on alcohol and drugs and sexual health and sexual misconduct) and with the training and coordination of all first-year hall presentations. The Health Educator would also supervise the Health Education Associate and the student Health Adviser volunteers.
The Health Education works closely with Health Services, Nutritional Services, and Counseling Services. Additionally, the Health Educator works with other campus partners to sponsor and facilitate various health and wellness programming initiatives.
JOB DUTIES

Supervise and collaborate with the Health Education Associate. The primary responsibilities of this position include the reduction of sexual violence on campus through the implementation of the Green Dot Program and substance abuse reduction programming. - 20% - Essential

Select, train, and supervise Davidson College student volunteers to become Health Advisers to their peers. These students work closely with the Health Educator in weekly meetings to design new health education programs, discuss campus life and culture and work together to promote a balanced and healthy life for the student population. Facilitate and manage the activities within this program from hall talks to campus wide speakers, awareness events, etc. - 20% - Essential

Participate in the first-year orientation programs. Collaboration with the Theatre Department, The Dean of Students Office and the Health Advisers is part of the creative process for the “Community of Respect” orientation skits. Implement, audit and update as needed with the Innovation Team the required preorientation online courses, Davidson Close-Up: Alcohol and Drugs and Davidson Close-Up: Sexual Health and Sexual Misconduct. - 10% - Essential

Provide Individual support and resources for students who have been referred for sexual assault including the Title IX Coordinator and the Campus Police as indicated. Provide follow-up for students with alcohol and drug concerns from the Dean of Students Office. Provide counseling and resources for all students seeking information on diseases, medical exams, sexuality issues, and many other health-related issues. Initiate referrals and monitor progress. - 25% - Essential

Advise and collaborate with health-related student groups on their programming efforts, internal structure and progress. Facilitate and promote many health-related campaigns and projects on campus such as: the Flu Vaccine campaign, STI testing campaign, The Center for Student Health and Well-Being, the Dean of Students Office campaigns, and Resiliency projects. - 15% - Essential

Serve on committees such as the Institutional Review Board, the Resiliency Committee, and The Alcohol Task Force and others according to time and interest. - 10% - Essential
REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Public Health, Student Development, or other related field and four years of work experience in a college/university environment.

Knowledge of current evidence-based health promotion practices and theories.

Ability to facilitate non-traditional programming, including an understanding of Health education issues of diverse populations.

Comfort around sensitive topics during one-on-one discussions and educational initiatives.

Ability to collaborate well with student groups, departments within Student Life.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment as part of a collaborative team and interacting collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.

Skilled in planning and public speaking and/or teaching.
