Oncology Registered Nurse Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a oncology registered nurse in Texas?
You must first earn an Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program, then pass the NCLEX-RN exam and obtain licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing. Texas is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so nurses already licensed in another compact state may practice without a separate Texas license. Most Texas employers expect at least one year of clinical experience before moving into an oncology specialty, and the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation credential strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How much do oncology registered nurses make in Texas?
Oncology registered nurses in Texas earn a median of about $95,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,120 for the lowest 10% to over $127,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire oncology registered nurses in Texas?
Employers hiring oncology registered nurses in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, Baylor Scott & White Health, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large academic medical centers and regional cancer networks means hiring activity is consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most oncology registered nurse jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most oncology registered nurse openings in Texas. Houston leads because it is home to MD Anderson Cancer Center and a dense cluster of hospital systems with dedicated oncology divisions, while Dallas and San Antonio generate steady demand through their large academic medical centers, comprehensive cancer programs, and rapidly expanding suburban hospital campuses.
Are there remote oncology registered nurse jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Oncology nursing is primarily a hands-on, bedside, or infusion-suite role that requires direct patient care, so remote work is limited by the nature of the job. About 14% of oncology registered nurse openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve telephone triage, oncology case management, or utilization review rather than direct clinical care.
How can I get hired as a oncology registered nurse in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate residency or nurse residency program at a large Texas health system. MD Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor Scott & White Health, and Texas Health Resources all run structured residency programs that accept new graduates and rotate them through oncology units. Starting in a medical-surgical or critical care role at a Texas hospital and requesting an internal transfer to oncology after a year is another well-established path. Obtaining your Texas Board of Nursing license promptly and completing chemotherapy administration training through the Oncology Nursing Society gives you a meaningful edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to oncology registered nurse jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to oncology registered nurse jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
