Behavioral Health Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a behavioral health manager in Texas?
Most behavioral health manager roles in Texas require a master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology alongside an active clinical license issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, or the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists. Employers typically expect several years of direct clinical practice before moving into a management role, and many require licensure at the independent practice level before overseeing clinical staff.
Which companies hire behavioral health managers in Texas?
Employers hiring behavioral health managers in Texas right now include Dallas Independent School District, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and Baylor University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, community mental health authorities, and managed behavioral health organizations consistently maintain some of the highest hiring volumes in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most behavioral health manager jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Bastrop have the most behavioral health manager openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive the highest volumes through their large hospital systems, managed care headquarters, and behavioral health networks, while San Antonio's concentration of military-affiliated treatment programs and VA-connected providers creates consistent demand that goes beyond what the city's population size alone would suggest.
Are there remote behavioral health manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because behavioral health managers often oversee clinical staff, conduct in-person supervision, and maintain hands-on program oversight. About 0% of behavioral health manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and the roles most likely to allow remote work are utilization management, care coordination leadership, and quality assurance positions that don't require direct floor supervision.
How can I get hired as a behavioral health manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a lead clinician or senior case manager role first, then stepping into management once you've demonstrated supervisory readiness. Large Texas community mental health authorities and health systems like those affiliated with UT Health or Baylor Scott and White often post internal leadership development opportunities for high-performing clinical staff. Earning an independent clinical license in Texas, completing a supervisory credential, and volunteering to mentor newer staff or lead a team project can accelerate that transition even before a formal manager title opens up.
Where can I find and apply to behavioral health manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to behavioral health manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, specialty area, and preferred location across the state, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
