Neuropsychologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a neuropsychologist in Texas?
Becoming a neuropsychologist in Texas requires earning a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA-accredited program, completing an APA-accredited predoctoral internship, and then finishing a postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology. You must then obtain licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, which requires passing the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology. Most Texas hospital systems and VA facilities also expect board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology.
Which companies hire neuropsychologists in Texas?
Employers hiring neuropsychologists in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, Baylor College of Medicine, and Cook Children's Health Care System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large academic medical systems and VA network consistently maintain neuropsychology departments, making them reliable sources of both staff and training positions across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most neuropsychologist jobs?
Houston, Fort Worth, and San Antonio have the most neuropsychologist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive volume through their dense academic medical centers, Level I trauma centers, and VA facilities, while San Antonio benefits from its large military and veteran health infrastructure at institutions like Brooke Army Medical Center.
Are there remote neuropsychologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Neuropsychology is fundamentally a hands-on clinical discipline requiring in-person assessment, so most roles are on-site. About 0% of neuropsychologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in consultation, report writing, or tele-neuropsychology screening roles rather than full assessment practices.
How can I get hired as a neuropsychologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology, which Texas institutions such as UT Southwestern, Texas Children's Hospital, and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center offer specifically for new doctoral graduates. Candidates can also pursue associate or staff psychologist roles that include supervised neuropsychological assessment. Holding Texas licensure or being close to eligibility, along with demonstrated experience in psychodiagnostic testing from graduate practica, gives applicants a clear edge at the hiring stage.
Where can I find and apply to neuropsychologist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to neuropsychologist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across health systems, VA facilities, rehabilitation centers, and academic medical institutions.
