Pediatric Surgeon Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pediatric surgeon in Texas?
To practice as a pediatric surgeon in Texas, you must hold an active license issued by the Texas Medical Board, which requires completing medical school, a general surgery residency, and a pediatric surgery fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. After training, you apply to the Texas Medical Board for licensure and obtain hospital privileges. Board certification through the American Board of Surgery, with the added qualification in pediatric surgery, is expected by most Texas employers.
Which companies hire pediatric surgeons in Texas?
Employers hiring pediatric surgeons in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, Baylor College of Medicine, and Cook Incorporated, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large children's hospital networks and academic health systems drive consistent demand, particularly for surgeons with fellowship training in subspecialty areas like neonatal or oncologic surgery.
Which Texas cities have the most pediatric surgeon jobs?
Temple, Austin, and Fort Worth have the most pediatric surgeon openings in Texas. Houston leads because it is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, while Dallas draws demand through Children's Health and UT Southwestern, and San Antonio's concentration of military-affiliated and university health systems supports a steady pipeline of pediatric surgical positions.
Are there remote pediatric surgeon jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Pediatric surgery is a hands-on clinical specialty requiring an operating room, so the vast majority of positions are fully on-site. About 0% of pediatric surgeon openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those limited opportunities tend to involve telemedicine-based surgical consultations, pre-operative planning, or administrative and leadership roles within large health systems.
How can I get hired as a pediatric surgeon in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a clinical faculty or junior attending position through a Texas academic medical center while you build your independent case volume. Institutions like Texas Children's Hospital, Children's Health in Dallas, and UT Health programs regularly recruit newly fellowship-trained surgeons into structured mentorship tracks. Completing your Texas Medical Board licensure promptly and obtaining or actively pursuing American Board of Surgery certification gives you a meaningful edge, as does subspecialty training in high-need areas like neonatal surgery or minimally invasive pediatric techniques.
Where can I find and apply to pediatric surgeon jobs in Texas?
