You must earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from an accredited program and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination, then obtain a license through the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners before practicing in Texas. Most Texas employers also expect experience or clinical rotations with athletic populations. Pursuing board certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties strengthens your candidacy considerably.

Which companies hire sports physical therapists in Texas?

Texas's concentration of professional sports franchises, NCAA Division I athletic programs, and large orthopedic hospital systems creates consistent hiring demand across both metro and suburban markets.
Which Texas cities have the most sports physical therapist jobs?
Austin, Corpus Christi, and Katy have the most sports physical therapist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth dominate because of their large hospital systems, professional sports teams, and dense orthopedic clinic networks, while Austin's growing tech workforce and expanding university sports programs have made it an increasingly active market for sports rehabilitation roles.
Are there remote sports physical therapist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Sports physical therapy is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact for evaluation, manual treatment, and functional testing, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of sports physical therapist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to be in telehealth triage, injury consultation, or remote program design rather than primary clinical care.
How can I get hired as a sports physical therapist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a post-professional sports physical therapy residency, with programs available through institutions like Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern Medical Center that are structured for new graduates. Entry-level aide, physical therapy technician, or athletic training assistant roles at Texas orthopedic clinics or university athletic departments can also bridge the gap. Completing clinical rotations with a sports focus and pursuing your Sports Clinical Specialist certification early signals commitment to Texas employers.
