Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Texas?
You become a surgical dental assistant in Texas by first registering with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, which requires completing an approved dental assisting program or meeting an on-the-job experience alternative and passing a jurisprudence exam. A separate radiology certification is required to take X-rays. From there, most surgical roles expect hands-on exposure to oral surgery or periodontal procedures, which you can build through a general dental assisting position before moving into a specialty practice.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Texas?
Companies currently hiring surgical dental assistants in Texas include CHRISTUS Health, Houston Methodist, and Texas Health Resources, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Texas also has a large network of independent oral surgery and maxillofacial practices in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio that hire consistently throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth have the most surgical dental assistant openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas lead because of their sheer population size and concentration of oral surgery specialty groups, while San Antonio's growth is driven by military-affiliated dental programs and the expanding UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry clinical network.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 8% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects how hands-on this role is by nature. The small share of flexible postings typically involves treatment coordination, patient scheduling, or insurance pre-authorization duties that can be done off-site rather than chairside clinical work.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a general dental assisting role first, then transitioning into a surgical specialty once you have chairside exposure. Large Texas employers such as Aspen Dental and Pacific Dental Services regularly hire new graduates into general assistant positions that rotate through extraction and minor surgical cases. Completing your Texas State Board of Dental Examiners registration and radiology certification before applying signals readiness, and any externship completed at an oral surgery or periodontal practice in Texas gives a direct competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Texas market. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your credentials and preferred city, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
