Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Michigan?
To work as a surgical dental assistant in Michigan, you must register with the Michigan Board of Dentistry, which oversees dental assistant credentials in the state. Most candidates complete an accredited dental assisting program, then register with the board and obtain radiography authorization. For surgical roles specifically, employers expect hands-on training in oral surgery settings, often gained through a dental assisting program externship or direct on-the-job training under a licensed dentist.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Michigan?
Employers hiring surgical dental assistants in Michigan right now include Henry Ford Health, Corewell Health, and Trinity Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Michigan's large integrated health systems and multi-specialty oral surgery group practices are consistently among the most active hirers across both metro and mid-size markets.
Which Michigan cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Grand Rapids, Midland, and Traverse City have the most surgical dental assistant openings in Michigan. Detroit leads due to the concentration of hospital-affiliated dental programs and large oral surgery group practices, while Grand Rapids and Lansing are driven by regional health system expansions and growing suburban oral surgery clinics that consistently post openings across experience levels.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Surgical dental assisting is a hands-on chairside role that requires physical presence in a clinic or surgical suite, so remote work is not typical. About 0% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those postings generally cover administrative or care coordination tasks rather than direct surgical support.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a Michigan Board of Dentistry-recognized dental assisting program that includes a surgical externship, then applying to oral surgery group practices and hospital dental departments for entry-level or trainee roles. Large Michigan health systems such as Henry Ford Health and Spectrum Health periodically hire new graduates into structured orientation programs. Candidates who cross over from general dental assisting or sterilization technician roles and hold current radiography authorization have a clear advantage when applying for surgical positions.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your experience level, preferred location, and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No need to go elsewhere to start your search.
