Tips for Your Neuropsychologist Job Search
Tailor your CV to each setting
Hospital systems and VA facilities weight different competencies than private practices or academic departments. Highlight inpatient consultation experience for hospital roles, outpatient assessment volume for clinic roles, and research output for academic positions. A single generic CV will hurt you across all three.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists neuropsychologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
List your specific test battery by name
Hiring managers scan for exact instruments, not categories. Name the batteries you administer and score: WAIS-IV, RBANS, D-KEFS, TOMM, PAI, and others relevant to your specialty. Vague phrases like 'standard cognitive assessments' get passed over by reviewers who need a specific match.
Filter openings by your licensure state
Neuropsychologist licensure is state-specific and reciprocity is limited. Target openings only in states where you hold or can realistically obtain licensure before your start date. Applying to roles in states requiring a separate examination you haven't sat adds months of delay.
Prepare case conceptualization answers for interviews
Expect clinical interviews to include a case vignette requiring you to walk through differential diagnosis, test selection, and report interpretation aloud. Practice presenting a full conceptualization from referral question to recommendations, because panel interviewers often include non-neuropsychologists who need plain-language explanations.
Negotiate your productivity expectations in writing
Before accepting any offer, clarify how assessment volume is defined: number of batteries per week, billable hours, or report turnaround time. Misaligned expectations on productivity are the most common reason new hires leave within a year, so get the metrics on paper before your start date.
Neuropsychologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most neuropsychologists?
The companies hiring the most neuropsychologists right now include Lyra Health, LifeStance Health, and Houston Methodist, with the largest share of openings in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Health systems, VA medical centers, and large rehabilitation networks consistently post the highest volume of openings.
How many neuropsychologist jobs are remote?
About 10% of neuropsychologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is low compared to most psychology specialties because the role centers on in-person standardized testing. Telehealth-eligible work, such as feedback sessions, report writing, and some consultation, is more commonly offered in hybrid arrangements rather than fully remote positions.
How do you become a neuropsychologist?
You become a neuropsychologist by completing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology with neuropsychology training, finishing an APA-accredited internship, and then completing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship specifically in neuropsychology. After the fellowship you apply for state licensure as a psychologist and can pursue board certification in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology.
How do you get hired as a neuropsychologist with little experience?
Postdoctoral fellowship is the standard entry point, so framing yourself as a fellow candidate rather than a fully independent applicant is the right approach early in your career. Emphasize your practicum and internship assessment hours, name the specific batteries you are trained in, and target settings like VA training programs, academic medical centers, or group practices that routinely hire early-career clinicians with supervision structures in place.
What does the neuropsychologist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes begin with a phone or video screen with HR or a department coordinator, followed by a clinical interview with the neuropsychology team that typically includes a case vignette or presentation of de-identified assessment data. Final rounds often involve a meeting with department leadership or medical directors, a tour of the assessment suite, and a conversation about productivity expectations, report turnaround standards, and referral sources.
Where can I find and apply to neuropsychologist jobs?
You can find and apply to neuropsychologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find roles that match your specialty, setting preference, and location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
