Internal Medicine Physician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an internal medicine physician in New York?
To practice as an internal medicine physician in New York, you must obtain a medical license through the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions, which requires a medical degree from an accredited school, completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine, and passage of the USMLE steps. Most New York employers also require board certification or active board eligibility through the American Board of Internal Medicine. New York additionally requires a separate state controlled substance registration to prescribe controlled medications.
How much do internal medicine physicians make in New York?
Internal medicine physicians in New York earn a median of about $183,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,160 for the lowest 10% to over $416,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire internal medicine physicians in New York?
Employers hiring internal medicine physicians in New York right now include Regeneron, Guthrie, and Massena Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of large academic medical centers and integrated health systems means internal medicine physicians have an unusually broad range of practice settings to choose from, including community hospitals, faculty practice plans, and large multispecialty groups.
Which New York cities have the most internal medicine physician jobs?
Tarrytown, Brooklyn, and Corning have the most internal medicine physician openings in New York. New York City leads by a wide margin given its concentration of flagship academic health systems and high patient volume, while Buffalo and Rochester generate steady demand through anchor institutions like Kaleida Health and Rochester Regional Health serving large regional catchment areas.
Are there remote internal medicine physician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are rare. Internal medicine physicians work primarily in person conducting physical exams, managing inpatient care, and performing procedures that require direct patient contact. About 0% of internal medicine physician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are concentrated in telehealth urgent care, chronic disease management consultations, and utilization review or case management roles.
How can I get hired as an internal medicine physician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a residency at a New York program, since many large health systems hire directly from their own residency graduates into attending roles. Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and Montefiore all operate large residency programs and routinely convert residents to staff positions. New graduates without prior attending experience should target hospitalist roles or faculty junior attending positions, where structured mentorship and caseload supervision are built in. Holding a New York State medical license and active ABIM eligibility before applying gives candidates a clear advantage.
Where can I find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from employers actively hiring. Find a role that fits your specialty focus, preferred practice setting, and location within the state, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
