Care Assistant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a care assistant in New York?
To work as a care assistant in New York, you typically need to complete a state-approved Home Health Aide or Personal Care Aide training program, which is regulated by the New York State Department of Health. These programs cover personal care skills, infection control, and safety. After completing training, you must pass a competency evaluation before working with patients. Some entry-level roles in adult day programs or assisted living facilities have fewer formal requirements but still prefer completed training.
Which companies hire care assistants in New York?
Companies currently hiring care assistants in New York include Rochester Regional Health, Right At Home, and BrightPath Kids, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's large home health agency sector, along with major health systems operating community-based programs, makes it one of the most active hiring markets for this role in the country.
Which New York cities have the most care assistant jobs?
The cities with the most care assistant openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester. New York City accounts for the largest share by volume given its population density and concentration of hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies, while cities like Buffalo and Rochester reflect the strong regional medical centers and senior care networks that anchor hiring in upstate New York.
Are there remote care assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Care assistant work is fundamentally hands-on and requires physical presence with clients or patients, so most roles are on-site. About 0% of care assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve care coordination, scheduling support, or telephonic patient check-ins rather than direct personal care.
How can I get hired as a care assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a New York State Department of Health-approved home health aide training program, many of which are offered free or at low cost through agencies like VNS Health or Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Large providers such as Northwell Health and NYC Health + Hospitals also run entry-level caregiver associate programs that train candidates on the job. Completing the state-required competency evaluation and obtaining CPR certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those without any credentials.
Where can I find and apply to care assistant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to care assistant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
