Care Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a care assistant in Texas?
The path depends on the care setting. For roles in Texas-licensed skilled nursing facilities, you must complete a state-approved nurse aide training program and pass the Texas Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation, which is administered through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. For home health and assisted living roles, a formal state credential is not always required, though most Texas employers expect a completed aide training course, CPR certification, and a clean background check before your first shift.
Which companies hire care assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring care assistants in Texas right now include Petco, Houston Methodist, and Cook Children's Health Care System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large and aging population drives year-round recruitment across home health agencies, assisted living communities, and hospital-affiliated post-acute care networks throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most care assistant jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most care assistant openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas generate the highest volume because of their size, aging suburbs, and the concentration of major health systems and senior living operators, while San Antonio's large military retiree population and growing medical center create consistent demand for personal care and home-based support roles.
Are there remote care assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Care assistant work is fundamentally hands-on, so most positions require physical presence with clients or residents. About 0% of care assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve care coordination, scheduling, or telephonic check-in roles rather than direct personal care.
How can I get hired as a care assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying directly to home health agencies or assisted living communities that offer on-the-job training, since many Texas operators hire candidates without prior experience and sponsor them through a nurse aide training program. Large Texas-based employers like CHRISTUS Health and regional home care networks regularly post entry-level openings for personal care attendants and home health aides. Holding a current CPR card and a clean background check gives you a clear edge, and lateral experience in hospitality, childcare, or food service is recognized by Texas employers as transferable to personal care work.
Where can I find and apply to care assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to care assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
