About the opportunity

OrthoRehab is a locally owned, patient-centered private practice in San Antonio. We are expanding into a private outpatient urgent-care office suite designed to provide accessible, efficient, and high-quality care for patients with non-life-threatening acute medical needs.

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who is confident, clinically thorough, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient setting. The ideal candidate values compassionate care, sound medical judgment, clear communication, and a professional patient experience.

Position summary

The NP or PA will evaluate, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients presenting with common urgent-care concerns. This clinician will manage acute illnesses and minor injuries, order and interpret appropriate testing, prescribe medications within delegated authority, provide patient education, and make timely referrals or emergency transfers when a patient’s condition exceeds the scope or resources of the clinic.

The role requires independent clinical judgment while collaborating closely with the supervising/delegating physician and clinic team.

Responsibilities

• Obtain focused histories, perform physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Evaluate and treat common urgent-care presentations, including upper-respiratory symptoms, influenza-like illness, sore throat, ear pain, urinary symptoms, gastrointestinal complaints, rashes, minor wounds, uncomplicated musculoskeletal injuries, and other non-emergent conditions.
• Perform or supervise routine in-office procedures within training and credentialing, such as wound care, laceration repair, splinting, basic fracture/injury management, injections, rapid testing, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection.
• Order, review, and interpret appropriate laboratory tests, imaging, and point-of-care diagnostics.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and durable medical equipment within Texas law, clinical protocols, credentialing, and delegated prescriptive authority.
• Identify red flags and arrange appropriate emergency-department transfer, specialty referral, or physician consultation when clinically indicated.
• Document patient encounters accurately, completely, and promptly in the clinic EMR.
• Communicate diagnoses, treatment recommendations, follow-up instructions, return precautions, and test results in clear patient-friendly language.
• Follow all clinic, payer, privacy, infection-control, OSHA, and quality-assurance policies.
• Participate in clinical protocol development, chart review, quality improvement, and collaboration with the supervising/delegating physician.
• Help maintain a respectful, efficient, and welcoming outpatient environment.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Texas license as a Nurse Practitioner/APRN or Physician Assistant.
• National certification in the applicable discipline: FNP, AGACNP, PA-C, or equivalent certification appropriate to the patient population served.
• Active Texas prescriptive authority, DEA registration if applicable to the role, and eligibility to practice under the clinic’s physician-delegation arrangements.
• At least one year of urgent care, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or comparable outpatient acute-care experience preferred.
• Strong skills in differential diagnosis, triage, risk assessment, clinical documentation, and patient education.
• Competence in common urgent-care procedures, or willingness to complete structured training and credentialing before independently performing them.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS and PALS are preferred.
• Strong communication skills, professionalism, reliability, and comfort working autonomously within a team-based practice.

Preferred qualifications

• Two or more years of urgent care or emergency medicine experience.
• Experience with occupational medicine, sports medicine, orthopedics, or outpatient procedures.
• Proficiency with suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, EKG interpretation, point-of-care testing, and basic X-ray interpretation.
• Experience with EMR systems, e-prescribing, payer documentation, and outpatient coding.
• Spanish-language proficiency is a plus, but not required.

Compensation and benefits

• $115,000–$145,000 per year, based on license type, experience, procedural competency, schedule, and clinical responsibilities.
• Part-time option may be available, with hourly compensation discussed based on schedule and experience.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
