Care Assistant Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a care assistant in Pennsylvania?
Most care assistant roles in Pennsylvania require completing a state-approved personal care aide or direct care worker training program, typically offered through community colleges, vocational schools, or employer-run programs. Some positions, particularly in licensed personal care homes or home health agencies, require registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. A background clearance through the Pennsylvania State Police and the Child Abuse History Registry is mandatory before starting work in most care settings.
Which companies hire care assistants in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania care assistant roles are posted by At Peace Health Care Agency, Penn Medicine, and Community Resources for Independence and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's dense network of hospital systems, nonprofit senior living communities, and home health agencies means openings are distributed across the state rather than concentrated in just one region.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most care assistant jobs?
Lancaster, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh have the most care assistant openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its scale and the concentration of major health systems and senior care networks in the region, while Pittsburgh's UPMC-anchored healthcare economy generates steady demand, and Allentown's growing older adult population and expanding home care market drive hiring in the Lehigh Valley.
Are there remote care assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. About 5% of care assistant openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most of the work is hands-on and requires being physically present with clients. The portions of the role most likely to have remote flexibility include care coordination, scheduling, and administrative support tasks within larger home health or managed care organizations.
How can I get hired as a care assistant in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to home care agencies or personal care homes that offer on-the-job training as part of their state-required orientation programs. UPMC, Genesis Healthcare, and Brookdale Senior Living run new-hire training tracks in Pennsylvania that are open to candidates without prior care experience. Starting in a companion aide or personal care attendant role and completing a Pennsylvania-approved training program while working gives candidates the credentials needed to move into higher-level positions.
Where can I find and apply to care assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to care assistant jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, location, and availability, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
