Home Health Nurse Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a home health nurse in New York?
To become a home health nurse in New York, you must hold an active Registered Nurse license issued by the New York State Education Department, which requires completing an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN. New York home care agencies are licensed and regulated by the New York State Department of Health, so your RN license must be in good standing with that board. Many employers also require a current CPR certification and at least one year of prior clinical experience.
How much do home health nurses make in New York?
Home health nurses in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire home health nurses in New York?
Employers hiring home health nurses in New York right now include BAYADA Home Health Care, Northwell Health, and Always Compassionate Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of certified home health agencies and managed long-term care plans means the employer pool is broad, with both large regional systems and community-based agencies posting regularly throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most home health nurse jobs?
The cities with the most home health nurse openings in New York are Brooklyn, Bronx, and Cheektowaga. New York City dominates due to its sheer population size and the concentration of large certified home health agencies and hospital-affiliated discharge programs, while Buffalo and Albany reflect strong regional demand driven by aging populations and the presence of major health systems with established home care divisions.
Are there remote home health nurse jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Home health nursing is fundamentally a hands-on, patient-facing role that requires in-person visits, so most positions are field-based by nature. About 1% of home health nurse openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are almost exclusively in telephonic triage, care management, or clinical documentation review rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a home health nurse in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate programs at large New York home care organizations such as Visiting Nurse Service of New York, which offers structured orientation tracks for nurses without home care backgrounds. Candidates coming from hospital med-surg, rehabilitation, or long-term care roles are well positioned for lateral entry because those settings develop the independent clinical judgment home care requires. Holding a current New York State RN license and a specialty certification such as wound care gives candidates a clear edge when competing for entry-level openings.
Where can I find and apply to home health nurse jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to home health nurse jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
