- OASIS-E competency and prior home health or community nursing experience

Tips for Your Home Health Nurse Job Search
Tailor your resume to visit metrics
Home health employers want to see patient volume, visit frequency, and outcomes you managed independently. Replace generic nursing duties with specifics like daily caseload size, disease conditions you treated, and any telehealth or remote monitoring tools you used in the field.
List every active certification up front
Certifications like OASIS competency, CPR, BLS, and any state-required home health aide supervisor credentials belong in a dedicated section near the top of your resume. Hiring managers screen for these before reading your experience, so don't bury them.
Filter openings by travel radius and payer mix
Home health postings vary widely on mileage expectations and whether they cover Medicare, Medicaid, or private-pay patients. Read each listing for territory size and payer type before applying, since these factors directly shape your daily schedule and documentation burden.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists home health nurse openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for competency-based scenario questions
Home health interviews routinely ask how you handle a patient whose condition deteriorates between scheduled visits or how you manage care without on-site physician support. Practice answers that show clinical judgment, documentation habits, and communication with the care team under independent conditions.
Negotiate mileage reimbursement and supply stipends
Base pay is only part of your total compensation in home health. Before accepting an offer, ask specifically about per-mile reimbursement rates, whether personal protective equipment is provided, and how on-call or after-hours visits are compensated, since these terms differ significantly by agency.
Home Health Nurse Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most home health nurses?
The companies hiring the most home health nurses right now include Bayada Home Health Care, Signify Health, and Bayada Home Health Care, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and New Jersey, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently strong at both national home health chains and regional hospice and rehabilitation agencies.
How many home health nurse jobs are remote?
About 2% of home health nurse openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those roles concentrated in telehealth triage, care coordination, and remote patient monitoring. Direct patient-visit positions are almost always field-based, but clinical documentation, case management follow-up, and supervisory roles are more likely to offer hybrid arrangements.
How do you become a home health nurse?
To become a home health nurse, you first complete an accredited nursing program and pass the NCLEX-RN to earn your RN license in the state where you plan to work. Most agencies require at least one year of acute care or medical-surgical experience before hiring into home health. You'll also need current BLS certification, a valid driver's license, and familiarity with OASIS documentation if you plan to work Medicare-certified cases.
Can you get a home health nurse job with little or no experience?
Some agencies hire new graduate RNs into home health with structured preceptorship programs, though these positions are less common than those requiring prior clinical experience. Your best entry points are agencies that offer formal orientation periods, roles supporting an experienced RN on complex cases, or positions in pediatric or infusion home health where your clinical training directly transfers. Highlighting any community health, home visit, or case management rotations from nursing school strengthens your application significantly.
What does the home health nurse interview process look like?
Most home health nurse interviews begin with a phone screen from a recruiter or clinical manager focused on your licensure status, available territory, and experience with OASIS documentation. A clinical interview typically follows, where you'll work through patient scenarios involving deteriorating conditions, family caregiver dynamics, or care coordination under limited supervision. Some agencies add a ride-along or observed skills competency check before extending an offer, particularly for candidates new to home health.
Where can I find and apply to home health nurse jobs?
You can find and apply to home health nurse jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from agencies and health systems across the United States. Search for roles that match your license state, preferred territory, and clinical specialty, then apply directly to each listing. New openings are added regularly, so checking back often gives you the best shot at early consideration.
