Tips for Your OB/GYN Physician Job Search
Tailor your CV for each setting
Academic positions weight publications and research heavily, while private practice listings prioritize patient volume and procedural breadth. Reorder your CV's sections depending on the employer type, and make sure your obstetric and gynecologic case numbers are front and center.
Highlight board certification and fellowship training
Board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology is the baseline credential most employers screen for first. If you completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, or REI, name the subspecialty explicitly in your summary so recruiters don't have to infer it.
Filter openings by call schedule and coverage model
Call burden varies dramatically across ob/gyn roles, from laborist-only positions to traditional private practice with full on-call obligations. Read each listing carefully for call frequency and group size before applying, since mismatches here are a leading reason candidates withdraw late in the process.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists ob/gyn physician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for a multi-stage interview format
Ob/gyn interviews typically include a site visit, meetings with department leadership, a clinical case or grand rounds presentation, and separate credentialing conversations. Practice presenting your surgical philosophy and maternal mortality risk management approach, because those topics come up consistently across hospital and academic settings.
Negotiate the full compensation package early
Malpractice coverage type (claims-made versus occurrence), tail insurance responsibility, and relocation assistance can shift the real value of an offer significantly. Clarify each of these in writing before accepting, and compare productivity bonus structures across offers rather than focusing solely on the base figure.
OB/GYN Physician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most ob/gyn physicians?
The companies hiring the most ob/gyn physicians right now include CommonSpirit Health, Pediatrix Medical, and Ascension, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Health system consolidation has expanded the number of employed physician openings relative to private practice opportunities over recent years.
How many ob/gyn physician jobs are remote?
About 0% of ob/gyn physician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on clinical nature of the specialty. Telehealth components are most common in prenatal follow-up visits, postpartum mental health consultations, and gynecologic chronic condition management rather than in surgical or labor and delivery roles.
How do you become an ob/gyn physician?
You earn a bachelor's degree with strong science prerequisites, complete medical school to receive your MD or DO, then match into an accredited four-year OB/GYN residency through the National Resident Matching Program. After residency you obtain your state medical license and pursue board certification. Fellowship training in a subspecialty is optional but required for roles in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, or reproductive endocrinology.
Can you get an ob/gyn physician job with little or no experience?
Newly graduating residents are the standard entry point for attending-level ob/gyn positions, so completing residency counts as your foundational experience. Some hospital systems and federally qualified health centers actively recruit new graduates for underserved areas and offer loan repayment in exchange. Locum tenens work is another practical way to build a clinical record across different practice settings before committing to a permanent role.
What does the ob/gyn physician interview process look like?
Most ob/gyn searches begin with a phone or video screening with a physician recruiter or department chair, followed by an in-person site visit that includes tours of labor and delivery, the operating suite, and outpatient clinics. You'll meet with current physicians, nursing leadership, and often hospital administration. Academic positions typically add a grand rounds or case presentation component. The full process from first contact to offer commonly runs several weeks.
Where can I find and apply to ob/gyn physician jobs?
You can find and apply to ob/gyn physician jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the available positions, find roles that match your training and practice preferences, and apply directly to each listing that fits.
