Clinician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinician in New York?
The path depends on the clinical discipline, but most licensed clinician roles in New York require a master's degree followed by supervised post-graduate hours and a state-issued license through the New York State Education Department. For example, licensed clinical social workers complete the LMSW examination and then accumulate supervised hours before sitting for the LCSW. Mental health counselors follow a similar route through the New York State licensed mental health counselor credential.
Which companies hire clinicians in New York?
Employers hiring clinicians in New York right now include ANDRUS, The Institute for Family Health, and Hamilton Madison House, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense network of federally qualified health centers, large public hospital systems, and state-operated mental health facilities means demand is distributed across both nonprofit and government employers throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most clinician jobs?
The cities with the most clinician openings in New York are New York, Bronx, and Brooklyn. New York City drives the largest share by a wide margin given the concentration of hospital systems, community mental health organizations, and school-based programs, while Buffalo and Albany reflect significant state agency presence and regional health system hiring that extends into surrounding suburban and rural counties.
Are there remote clinician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they represent a smaller share of total openings because most clinical roles involve direct in-person care. About 7% of clinician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are concentrated in telehealth counseling, care coordination, and utilization review rather than direct treatment or assessment roles.
How can I get hired as a clinician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a post-graduate internship or clinical fellowship at a New York City Health + Hospitals facility, a Northwell Health residency program, or one of the many New York State Office of Mental Health sites that formally hire licensed-eligible clinicians for supervised practice. Case manager and care coordinator roles at community health centers are a common lateral entry point that builds toward full licensure, and completing your LMSW before applying gives you a meaningful edge.
Where can I find and apply to clinician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to clinician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings across behavioral health, primary care, and community settings. Find roles that fit your discipline and experience level and apply directly to the employer.
