Physical Therapist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist in Texas?
To become a physical therapist in Texas, you must earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited program and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination, then apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. The board also requires a jurisprudence exam specific to Texas practice law before your license is issued. Continuing education is required for renewal every two years.
How much do physical therapists make in Texas?
Physical therapists in Texas earn a median of about $105,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,600 for the lowest 10% to over $139,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapists in Texas?
Employers hiring physical therapists in Texas right now include Rehab Employee Services, Houston Methodist, and Select Medical, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and the state's dense network of outpatient orthopedic and sports rehab clinics together account for a significant portion of available openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most physical therapist jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio consistently lead Texas in physical therapist openings. Houston's concentration of Level I trauma centers and large academic medical systems drives the highest volume, while Dallas draws demand from both sprawling suburban hospital campuses and a fast-growing sports medicine and orthopedic clinic sector, and San Antonio's substantial military and veteran healthcare infrastructure adds consistent hiring year-round.
Are there remote physical therapist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy is a hands-on clinical role, so most positions require in-person patient care. About 1% of physical therapist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are typically limited to telehealth consultations, care coordination, or utilization review positions rather than direct clinical treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a formal PT residency or new-graduate program, and large Texas employers such as Baylor Scott & White Health and UT Health offer structured residencies in orthopedics and sports physical therapy for candidates without post-graduate experience. Applying for PT aide or physical therapy technician roles at outpatient clinics is a common lateral move that builds clinical exposure. Completing your Texas jurisprudence exam and securing your Texas PT license before job searching gives new grads a concrete edge over candidates who have not yet cleared licensure.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to physical therapist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly.
