New York requires licensure before any clinical practice begins. The application is submitted to the NYSED, which reviews transcripts, exam scores, and professional references before issuing a license.

New York City dominates the listing volume because of its density of hospital systems, outpatient clinics, and specialized rehabilitation centers, while Long Island's aging suburban population drives strong demand at skilled nursing and orthopedic outpatient settings, and Buffalo's regional hospital network including Kaleida Health supports steady PT hiring across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Are there remote physical therapist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy is a hands-on clinical profession and the overwhelming majority of positions require in-person patient care. About 0% of physical therapist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles typically involve telehealth consultations, care coordination, or clinical education rather than direct treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to formal PT residency programs, which large New York employers including NYU Langone Health and Northwell Health run for new graduates seeking structured mentorship in orthopedics, neurology, or acute care. Entry-level staff PT and per diem positions at outpatient orthopedic clinics and skilled nursing facilities throughout New York City and Long Island are also accessible to new graduates.
