Speech Language Pathologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a speech language pathologist in Texas?
You must earn a master's degree in speech-language pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, then complete a supervised clinical fellowship year. After that, you apply for a Texas license through the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and pass the Praxis examination in speech-language pathology. Most employers in Texas also expect or require the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence once the fellowship is complete.
How much do speech language pathologists make in Texas?
Speech language pathologists in Texas earn a median of about $99,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,370 for the lowest 10% to over $132,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire speech language pathologists in Texas?
Employers hiring speech language pathologists in Texas right now include Cole Health, Baylor Scott & White Health, and Believe Therapies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas also sees consistent hiring from large school districts such as Houston ISD and Dallas ISD, which run among the biggest school-based therapy programs in the country.
Which Texas cities have the most speech language pathologist jobs?
Austin, Houston, and College Station have the most speech language pathologist openings in Texas right now. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their dense concentrations of pediatric hospital systems, large independent school districts, and rehabilitation networks, while San Antonio draws steady demand from its military-connected healthcare facilities and rapidly growing suburban school population.
Are there remote speech language pathologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because most speech-language pathology work involves direct patient or student contact. About 0% of speech language pathologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting limited but genuine opportunity. Telepractice roles are most prevalent in adult accent modification, early intervention consultations, and some school-based therapy contracts with rural Texas districts.
How can I get hired as a speech language pathologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a clinical fellowship position, which Texas employers like Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor Scott & White Health, and large independent school districts post specifically for new graduates. School districts are particularly new-grad friendly because Texas requires a speech-language pathology assistant or fellowship pathway that gives structured supervision. Completing your licensure application through the Texas State Board promptly and holding a current Praxis score gives you a clear edge over candidates still in process.
Where can I find and apply to speech language pathologist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to speech language pathologist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
