Physical Therapy Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapy assistant in Texas?
To work as a physical therapy assistant in Texas, you must hold an active license issued by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. That requires completing an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist assisting program and passing the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs. After passing, you apply directly to the Texas board for licensure before practicing in the state.
How much do physical therapy assistants make in Texas?
Physical therapy assistants in Texas earn a median of about $78,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,900 for the lowest 10% to over $99,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapy assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring physical therapy assistants in Texas right now include Rehab Employee Services, AccentCare, and HealthPRO Heritage, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and post-acute networks drive consistent demand, particularly for outpatient orthopedic and skilled nursing facility roles.
Which Texas cities have the most physical therapy assistant jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most physical therapy assistant openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of major hospital systems and outpatient clinic networks anchors the market, while Dallas-Fort Worth's sprawling suburban growth drives demand in orthopedic and sports rehab settings, and San Antonio's large military-connected population and expanding health corridor keep hiring steady there.
Are there remote physical therapy assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy assistant work is hands-on by nature, so most roles require on-site patient care. About 0% of physical therapy assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative coordination, telehealth support, or care management duties rather than direct treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapy assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to large Texas health systems and post-acute networks that run new-graduate programs, such as Encompass Health's clinical onboarding tracks or skilled nursing groups that routinely hire new licensees with supervised caseloads. Roles as a rehab technician or patient care aide at Texas outpatient clinics or inpatient rehab units give hands-on exposure and often convert to PTA positions. Holding an active Texas PTA license and a completed clinical rotation in an orthopedic or geriatric setting gives candidates a clear edge over unverified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer.
