Tips for Your Speech Language Pathologist Job Search
Tailor your resume to the setting
A school-based SLP resume should foreground IEP documentation and caseload management, while a medical setting calls for dysphagia protocols and MBSS experience. Swap these sections for each application so your most relevant clinical work appears first.
List your CCC-SLP and state licensure clearly
Put your Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and your active state license in a dedicated credentials section near the top of your resume. Hiring managers often screen on these before reading anything else, so don't bury them.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists speech language pathologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by patient population
Search specifically for the population you want, such as early intervention, adult neuro, or AAC, rather than generic SLP titles. Job listings often name the caseload in the description, and targeting them keeps your application relevant from the first line.
Prepare for setting-specific interview scenarios
Interviewers in medical settings commonly ask you to walk through a clinical decision for a complex dysphagia case. School districts often ask how you prioritize a large IEP caseload. Practice talking through your reasoning aloud, not just your conclusions.
Negotiate the supervision load, not just pay
When an offer comes in, ask directly how many CF or SLPA supervisees you would carry. A high supervision requirement cuts into your direct therapy hours and affects your caseload capacity, so confirm the expectation before you accept.
Speech Language Pathologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most speech language pathologists?
The companies hiring the most speech language pathologists right now include FOX Rehabilitation, Healthpro Heritage, and Ivyrehab Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech-Language Pathology, Pllc, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. School districts, hospital systems, and outpatient rehabilitation groups consistently account for the bulk of full-time openings.
How many speech language pathologist jobs are remote?
About 1% of speech language pathologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, a share driven largely by the growth of teletherapy platforms serving school districts and private pay clients. Adult fluency, language therapy, and school-based services are the sub-areas most commonly offered via telehealth, while dysphagia and instrumental assessment roles remain almost entirely in person.
How do you become a speech language pathologist?
You earn a bachelor's degree in communication sciences or a related field, complete a master's program in speech-language pathology accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation, then finish a clinical fellowship year under a certified SLP. After the fellowship you pass the Praxis examination in Speech-Language Pathology, apply for your state license, and maintain both through continuing education.
Can you get a speech language pathologist job with little experience?
Yes, clinical fellowship year positions are specifically designed for candidates who have just completed their graduate program and have no independent practice experience. School districts and early intervention agencies frequently hire CFs and provide structured supervision. Highlighting your graduate externship settings, the patient populations you worked with, and any AAC or dysphagia experience from clinic will strengthen an application even without post-degree employment history.
What does the speech language pathologist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes start with a phone or video screen focused on your clinical background and licensure status, followed by an in-person or panel interview with a clinical director and sometimes a department lead. School-based roles often include a scenario question about IEP prioritization or parent communication. Medical settings frequently ask you to walk through a case involving dysphagia evaluation or a complex AAC recommendation before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to speech language pathologist jobs?
You can find and apply to speech language pathologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings for roles that match your setting preference, patient population, and experience level, then apply directly to each opening that fits.
