Description Job Description
Summary
The Flight Paramedic extends the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by caring for critically ill and injured persons in the air medical environment. Practice is carried out with a high degree of independence in challenging out-of-hospital environments and at regional health care facilities. The position has significant responsibility for public relations and involves interacting with a wide range of healthcare and public safety professionals in stressful situations. The position requires subject matter management skills and independent work on projects to support Flight For Life operations. The position requires adherence to rigorous standards of safety. This position coordinates transport operations/clinical care with the Flight Nurse and Pilot crew members in conjunction with policies and procedures that have been established by Flight For Life Administration, the Flight For Life Medical Director, and Flight For Life’s contracted aviation services (FAA Part 135) operator.
The Flight Paramedic will be assigned a primary Flight For Life base, but may be reassigned to another base within Flight For Life as program needs may dictate. The Flight Paramedic is responsible for other duties as assigned to support program clinical operations. Substantial orientation and ongoing training is devoted to incoming Associates to support their developmental success as the program has rigorous after-hire credentialing requirements, including dual board certification.

- Minimum of three years of experience working in a moderate to high-volume ALS setting; greater than five years strongly preferred. Mixed ALS/critical care transport experience preferred.
- Current paramedic certification by the State of Texas required upon hire.

- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required upon hire.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required upon hire.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required within 6 months of hire.
- Certification in a transport-specific critical care board certification (C-NPT, FP-C or CCP-C) is strongly preferred at hire, and required within 24 months of start date.
- Previous flight or critical care transport experience highly preferred.
- Emotional stability to function effectively in unpredictable situations.
- Problem solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment and seek guidance when appropriate.
- Strong public relations and diplomacy skill set.
- Good keyboarding/documentation skills and general computer competency.

Tips for Your Flight Paramedic Job Search
Tailor your resume to flight protocols
Highlight scene responses, interfacility transports, and any critical care experience separately from ground EMS work. Flight programs scan for rotor-wing or fixed-wing hours, CCEMTP or CCP-C credentials, and advanced airway experience before anything else.
List every relevant certification prominently
Flight paramedic postings routinely filter on FP-C, CCP-C, CFRN eligibility, and ACLS, PALS, ITLS, or PHTLS currency. Put certifications in a dedicated section near the top of your resume so screeners confirm compliance in under ten seconds.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists flight paramedic openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target programs that match your aircraft experience
Air medical operators specify helicopter versus fixed-wing operations in their postings. Applying only to programs whose aircraft type matches your logged hours prevents automatic disqualification and shows you read the requirements carefully.
Prepare a scenario-based interview story bank
Flight interviews lean heavily on critical decision-making scenarios: rapid decomposition at altitude, limited crew resources, and divert decisions. Prepare three to five patient narratives that demonstrate autonomous clinical judgment, not just protocol adherence.
Negotiate schedule and base assignment before accepting
Flight paramedic offers often come with 12-hour or 24-hour shift structures and mandatory base rotations. Confirm your assigned base location and shift rotation in writing during the offer stage, because transfers after hire can be difficult to reverse.
Flight Paramedic Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most flight paramedics?
The companies hiring the most flight paramedics right now include Air Methods, PHI Air Medical, and Geisinger Health Plan, with the largest share of openings in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Air medical transport operators and hospital-based programs account for the majority of active postings.
How many flight paramedic jobs are remote?
About 1% of flight paramedic openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects the hands-on clinical nature of the role. The sub-areas most likely to include remote components are quality assurance, flight coordination, and clinical education positions within air medical organizations rather than active crew roles.
How do you become a flight paramedic?
Start by earning your NREMT-Paramedic license and building several years of high-acuity ALS experience, ideally in a busy urban or trauma system. Pursue your FP-C or CCP-C certification, keep ACLS, PALS, and a trauma course current, and accumulate as many critical care and advanced airway cases as possible before applying to air medical programs.
Can you get hired as a flight paramedic with limited experience?
Direct entry into a flight crew role with limited field experience is uncommon because most programs require several years of ground ALS work before considering applicants. A practical path is to join a high-volume urban or rural ALS service, request additional critical care exposure, pursue your FP-C early, and shadow an existing flight crew to build referral relationships before you apply.
What does the flight paramedic interview process look like?
Most air medical programs use a multi-stage process that begins with a phone screen to verify credentials and availability, followed by a clinical scenario interview where you walk through patient presentations in real time. Finalists typically complete a skills verification or sim lab assessment and a ride-along evaluation before an offer is extended, so prepare clinical narratives and practice verbal patient handoffs in advance.
Where can I find and apply to flight paramedic jobs?
You can find and apply to flight paramedic jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings for roles that match your credentials and experience, then apply directly to each opening that fits.
