Medical Doctor Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Indiana?
To practice medicine in Indiana you must hold an active license issued by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board, which requires completing medical school, graduating from an accredited residency program, and passing all three steps of the USMLE or the equivalent COMLEX series for osteopathic physicians. Indiana also requires a separate controlled substance registration from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency before you can prescribe scheduled medications.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring medical doctors in Indiana include TeamHealth, Indiana University Health, and Franciscan Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's largest physician employers tend to be integrated health systems with hospital campuses and affiliated outpatient practices spread across multiple Indiana counties.
Which Indiana cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Indianapolis, Avon, and Carmel have the most medical doctor openings in Indiana. Indianapolis dominates because it is home to Indiana University Health's flagship campus, Ascension St. Vincent, and Community Health Network, while Fort Wayne and Evansville support sizable regional markets anchored by Parkview Health and Deaconess Health System respectively, pulling physician demand well beyond the capital.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 23% of medical doctor openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most physician work requires direct patient contact. The roles most likely to carry a remote component are telehealth urgent care, utilization review, and insurance medical directorship positions that do not involve hands-on examination.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a residency or fellowship at an Indiana-based program, such as those affiliated with Indiana University School of Medicine, which places graduates directly into the IU Health and Eskenazi Health hiring pipelines. New attending physicians without independent practice history can also pursue hospitalist roles at community hospitals, where systems like Ascension St. Vincent and Parkview Regional Medical Center regularly onboard physicians fresh out of training. Securing board eligibility before interviewing and obtaining your Indiana controlled substance registration early gives candidates a measurable advantage.
Where can I find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings from health systems, group practices, and multispecialty clinics across the state. Find the roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly through each listing.
